Washington Wine Tasting at 1900

  • 1900 Building and The Restaurant at 1900 1900 Shawnee Mission Pkwy Mission Woods United States (map)

Washington State wines have long been a feature of the wine program at 1900. It’s not only that they perform above their price points (as the wine media consistently boasts), but we are strong believers in the style of wines the state produces. The alcohols are often more moderated than down south in California; the wines may be less overtly ripe in their flavors. For some, it’s as if Washington red wines exist between the richness of California and the structure of Bordeaux.

Washington and Oregon represent most of the acreage of the Pacific Northwest but there’s vast diversity among the wines of those two states. While Oregon’s Willamette Valley has traditionally been focused upon Pinot Noir, Washington has always been willing to grow and make a wild assortment of grape varieties. Cabernets and Merlot grow well in the warmer sites, along with many Rhone grapes. White grapes used to dominate in the vineyards, and nearly disappeared in the 90s and 00s, but they are gaining attention now. And the Walla Walla Valley straddles both Washington and Oregon, with the vineyards roughly split between the two states.

Our Washington wine event offers an abundant selection of the range of wines that Washington creates. You can taste wines from AVAs from Red Mountain to Horse Heaven Hills to Walla Walla Valley, and from wineries such as Airfield Wines, Andrew Will, Canvasback, Chateau Ste. Michelle, Echolands, Goose Ridge, William Grassie Wines, Hedges Family Estate, K Vintners, Kiona Vineyards, Long Shadows, L'Ecole No. 41, Sleight of Hand Cellars, Valdemar Estates and, one of the OG’s of the Washington wine industry, Woodward Canyon.

We are offering early entry at 12:30pm, general entry at 1:00pm, plus special pricing for our service industry friends. Your ticket price includes tastes from all wineries, great conversation with Washington wine experts, and light bites from The Restaurant at 1900.
